Accessibility
Last updated: November 6, 2026
Startender is for everyone who works in hospitality, including people with disabilities. We want our website and our iPhone and Android apps to work with screen readers, keyboards, zoom and other assistive technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
Something not working for you? Email hello@startender.app and tell us the page or screen and what happened. A real person will reply within 5 business days. If a barrier stops you from applying to a job, we'll help you apply another way.
What we've done
- A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page, and the main content marked so screen readers can jump to it.
- Labels on form fields, so screen readers say what each box is for.
- Dark text on our blue buttons and badges on the website and in the apps, for stronger color contrast.
- Every job lists a way to ask for a reasonable accommodation to apply.
- Text you can enlarge with your browser or phone settings.
Known gaps we're working on
- In the iPhone and Android apps, some buttons and icons don't have screen-reader labels yet. We're adding them.
- Photos and videos that people upload to their profiles don't come with text descriptions or captions.
- Many job descriptions come from employers' own careers pages, so their wording and layout are the employer's.
- The map can be hard to use with a screen reader or keyboard. The job list shows the same jobs and works without the map.
Applying for a job
Every job on Startender is open to applicants with disabilities. If you need a reasonable accommodation to apply through Startender, email hello@startender.app. For an accommodation at the job itself, contact the employer; the employer is responsible for its own hiring process.
